Naked and Exposed

I have to be honest, life as a self-published author is pretty scary.

Allowing other people to read my writing feels a little like letting them read my thoughts. After all, the storyline, the characters, not to mention those totally random conversations, all originated inside my head.

But the moment I hit publish, I made all of that accessible to anyone.  And that’s one hell of a scary prospect because now anyone is well within their right to publicly voice their opinion on my writing. And I’m more than a little apprehensive about what they are going to say.

If you’ve gone the traditional route, you can at least be secure in the knowledge that an agent or publisher—someone in the know—thought your novel was worthy of being published. But as a self-published author, you’re often relying on the feedback and opinions of friends and family. And what if (in their effort to spare your feelings) they haven’t been entirely honest? What if they’ve omitted to mention that your writing sucks?

Well… I guess you effectively become the literary equivalent of one of those awful X-factor auditions. You know, the ones that make you cringe, the ones that leave you wondering why nobody ever told the poor, hapless soul they sound like a strangled cat before they got to the point of embarrassing themselves in front of millions of TV viewers.

But if that is the case, and it does all go tits up, I guess there’s one consolation… Olivia will be taking the fall on my behalf!

The Final Countdown

The Final Countdown

Only 4 days to go until Beautiful Temptation goes live. And at the eleventh hour a writer friend discovered… shock, horror… a spelling mistake! I’d used ‘taught’ instead of ‘taut’ (In my defence, being a teacher, I am more familiar with bodies being taught than taut!)  So today I sent out an SOS email to Jason and Marina at Polgarus Studio ( who formatted the book for me. And just thirteen minutes later I received an email response which included the updated mobi, ePub and Pdf files. Now that’s what I call service!!

Welcome to my new website and my first blog post.

Today, I received the final edit of my manuscript which means my journey towards publishing my first ever novel is almost complete. But, as exciting as that is, it’s also daunting.

When I first challenged myself to sit down and write a novel I honestly had no idea how long it was going to take me, or quite how much I’d have to learn in the process. And although I’ve loved the journey, there have been many times when I honestly didn’t think I was capable of achieving it.

But as I’m now the proud owner of a complete and edited manuscript, it seems I was. I’ve finally achieved what I set out to do and written a novel. The big question, of course, is whether it’s a novel worth reading and I guess that’s something I’ll never know unless I put it out there for others to read. That’s the daunting bit.

Being a complete romance junkie, romance is my writing genre of choice and my first novel is a contemporary romance called Beautiful Temptation; the first of a two-part series about forbidden love.

If this sounds like your kind of thing, then click on the link for Chapter One for a sneak peek into Adam and Eve’s world. If you have time, I’d love for you to get in touch and tell me what you think.

Best wishes
